Lab of comparative biochemistry of cellular functions

Historical reference

The laboratory was established in 2015 by merging the groups “Molecular mechanisms of regulation of neuronal functions” and “Biochemical foundations of cellular functions”.

The main interest is focused on the molecular mechanisms that ensure the performance of specialized functions of various cell types under normal and pathological conditions.

Research areas:

1. Study of the mechanisms of development of epilepsy

The role of neuroinflammation in drug-resistant epilepsy in humans

Neurobiology of epilepsy on the model of the inbred Krushinsky-Molodkina (KM) rats, genetically prone to audiogenic seizures, with an emphasis on:

  • Postnatal brain development and adult neurogenesis
  • The effect of audiogenic seizures and the formation of TLE during audiogenic kindling on hippocampal remodeling (molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration, GABA and glutamate systems, neurogenesis, the role of neuroglia)
  • Search for new approaches in the treatment of epilepsy
2. Study of the effect of simulated microgravity (hindlimb unloading model) in rodents with a focus on:
  • Hippocampal remodeling
  • Functional state of the nigrostriatal system
  • The role dynamic foot stimulations as one of the methods for correcting of brain dysfunction
3. Study of the molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration using in vitro cellular models (a new direction)
